Speaker's Biography

     James Swan is the author of Fundraising for Libraries: 25 Proven Ways to get More Money for Your Library, Neal-Schuman, 2002.   His most recent book is The Librarian's Guide to Genealogical Services and Research, Neal-Schuman, 2004.   He is also the author of Fundraising for the Small Public Library: A How-To-Do-It Manual for Librarians, Neal-Schuman, 1990,    Working Together: A How-To-Do-It Manual for Trustees and Librarians, Neal-Schuman, 1992,    Automating Small Libraries, Highsmith Press, 1996, and    The Librarian's Guide to Genealogical Research, Highsmith Press, 1998.

     Swan has presented fundraising and genealogy workshops at several locations in Kansas and at national conferences. He has been conducting library fundraising since 1971. He has been working on his own genealogical research for over 40 years.

     As part of his job with the Central Kansas Library System and the Great Bend Public Library, Swan has taught over 300 workshops for librarians, trustees, and the public. He has a BA and MLS from Brigham Young University.
