!Charles T. PAGE, b. abt 1859, md. 7 May 1902 to Martha Ellen KING, WATERS They had only one child, Charlotte Tessie PAGE. Family stories say that he was a bridge builder for the Santa Fe Railroad when he courted and married Martha.
He would be gone for long period of time and home with her and her children by a former marriage for short periods of time. The Christmas of 1904 just about six weeks before Charlotte was two years old, he came home after a long stay away. He brought them all nice gifts for Christmas, leaving again a short while later. They never heard from him again and never learned where he went of what happened to him. A short while later, Martha learned that he had charged all the gifts he had given them. Her older boys had to quit school and go to work to pay for them.
When Charlotte was about three, Martha took her with her to see if she could learn what had happened to her husband. She went to visit with Charles' parents. They would not recognize her as his wife and turned her out. A sister of Charles' did talk to her, but she gained no information that would help her.
