Harlan Lill | Harlan Lill has indexed the obituaries appearing in the Plainville (Kansas) Times starting in 1888. Lill was born in St. John, Kansas. After high school he joined the Air Corp and was a B-17 pilot in the European Theater Operations where he flew 50 missions, most of them from Foggia Italy. Following the service he became a journalism student at KU, eventually bought the Plainville Times newspaper, and was the owner and editor of it for forty-one years. It was there that he saw the need for an index for obituaries. He started compiling this index in the early 1990's and worked on it through 2006, when the project was completed--except for annual updates.
The project was completed in 2007 with the assistance of Margaret Wilson, Jerry Wilson, Brenda Frederking, and Treva Younie. Through 2006 the index has 11,282 names of individuals with obituraries appearing in the Plainville Times.
Researchers can access individual obituaries by name. Local researchers may come to the library to look up the obituary on microfilm and make a copy.
