The Sylvan Grove Public Library was organized in the fall of 1925 by The Tuesday Club. The fIrst library was housed in a room above the Sylvan State Bank.

On December 1, 1956, the collection was moved to a room in the Sylvan City Hall, and that continues to be the home of the library.

In the sixty-two years the library has been in existence, there have been only four librarians: Mrs. Nulton served from 1925 to 1955, Mrs. Hinkston was librarian from 1955 to 1964, Esther Cross served from 1964 to 1980, and Lorene Peterman began in 1980.

The board members for 1987 are: President - Shirley Small; Vice President - Richard Howard; Secretary - Judy Walters; Treasurer - Lenora Strecker; and trustees Sandy Labertew, JoAnn Eller, and Nancy Mille.
