The Women's Federated Aurora Club of Lucas became aware of the desire in the community for a library. On April 26, 1938, the library was established, sponsored by the club. Members of the club made a house to house canvass of the community to collect books and money, and found generous donations of both. Their motto was "Life without a book would be unlivable; we want Lucas to become BOOK CONSCIOUS."

The first home for the library was in a tiny basement room in a building on Main Street. However, after a few years these quarters became too small and they began to search for a better building.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heine came to the rescue. They bought a building on Main Street, redecorated it and furnished it with tables, desks, chairs and shelves. On August 7, 1950, they gave this building to the city of Lucas for a library.

Through the years the Aurora Club struggled to keep the library financed. Money was secured from food sales, movies, and programs of various kinds. Merchants also helped in many ways. Finally the city took over the financial responsibility, but the club still supports the library with generous donations of money and books each year.

The library is also used as a meeting room for area clubs and organization meetings, blood pressure clinics, and open houses.
