The Home Culture Club met at the home of Mrs. T.R. Tinkler on May 10, 1916, and appointed a committee to look into the organization of a library. The committee secured the room over the Reynolds Store in the Tinkler Block to house the new library. Over $400 was raised to start the library. Miss Ethelyne Reynolds was the first librarian. The library began with one hundred volumes, plus the encyclopedia and various reference books.
On April 5, 1937, the people of Gypsum voted to make the library a permanent part of the city. Since its origin, the library has had several "homes." It is presently in the newly remodeled Gypsum Community Building, on the main street of Gypsum.
