When the Sunflower Study Club of Glasco was organized in 1916, their top priority was to establish a public library. At first the donated books were kept in a room in the basement of the First National Bank and checked out by volunteer workers. Mrs. L.H. Cool Sr. was the enthusiastic leader who made the library useful to the community. During the next fifty years, the library was housed in several different buildings: an old church; the home of a retired teacher, Mrs. Will Horn; and a former office building. The library was supervised by the Sunflower Study Club and the P.T.A.

The library joined CKLS soon after the System was formed. In 1966 the library was moved to the present site. This new building was erected by the city of Glasco to include the city hall and the library. Library circulation has grown by leaps and bounds. Patrons use the microfilm reader to read back issues of the local newspaper. The microfiche reader and KUC expedite interlibrary loan. The library owns a Canon copier, a 16 mm movie projector, a tape player--recorder, a portable phonograph and records, a film strip projector, polaroid cameras, an up to date collection of fiction, non-fiction and periodicals.

The Mother Goose Story Hour, sponsored by the Lauraceae Club and the library, and the Children's Summer Library Program are enjoyed by many children. Local artist, Mrs. Elaine Dopp, arranges for a new display of art or crafts by area artists at the library each month. Library news is published in the local newspaper each week.

Mrs. June McDonald has served as librarian since 1971. An active library board is supportive of library programs and improvements. People of all ages use and enjoy the Glasco City Library and CKLS services.
