The Research Club of Clyde started a "traveling library" in 1920. The library was housed in various business buildings. Through donations and money making projects, such as waffle suppers, plays, concerts at the opera house, food and rummage sales, the library continued to grow.

In 1926, the city of Clyde reported it was willing to pay rent for a library building. The Research Club collected one hundred signatures to present the amendment at election time. The amendment was approved in the spring of 1927. The old photo gallery was torn down and a 16x24 building was erected. The new library opened in January of 1928.

In June of 1967, the library joined the Central Kansas Library System. The Story Hour for Children was begun in 1970. In the fall of 1977 the library was the recipient of a legacy from the Isobel O'Connor estate. To comply with the terms of the will, the name of the library was changed to "Randolph-Decker Public Library."

A building was purchased on the main street of town. It was renovated to house the library, including a special "pit" area for the Children's Story Hour, facilities for art and hobby exhibits, and spacious room for the adult collection of fiction and non-fiction. By February of 1982, the work was completed and the library was moved to its present location.

The library offers all the CKLS services, magazines, records, film rental, and does an excellent job of community service.
