The Barber family came to Beekman by 1748 and remained through about 1765. MOSES, STEPHEN, and SIMEON BARBER, were most likely brothers and came to Beekman about the same time. Possibly the sons of Moses, Jr. of South Kingston, Ri. who was b. 25 Feb 1705/6 and was probably also of Beekman. A John and Jonathan Barber were taxed in the Southern Preinct in Feb 1744. A John Barber, born in Boston area and a John Barber Jr. b. in DC served in the F&I war 1758 and 1760 under captains Crane and Rea. We present below the few local records we have on this family assuming that Moses Barber was the Father. There are no early land records in Beekman for the Barbers.
MOSES BARBER, of South Kingston, RI Was born 25 Feb 1705/6 and probably cam to Beekman ca. 1750 and was noted in a road dedication of 20 Sep 1751 and was living in the Clapp Hill area of Beekman. A Stephen Barber was taxed in Beekman from 1748 through 1753 at one pound when the listing became Moses. This may have been a brother to Moses, we have no further data. Moses Barber was assessed at one pound in 1753, at two pounds in 1758, at one pound again in 1760, at two pounds in 1763 and was taxed through 1765 in Beekman.

MOSES BARBER was born ca 1741 in RI and probably camt to Beekman with his father ca. 1750. He was in a muster with Lieut. Simeon Barber in Dutchess Co. in May 1760. He was in Col. Humphries Co. of Militia. The muster roll noted that he was born in RI, was 19 years old. (Born ca. 1741) and was a cordwainer.
As Moses Barber Jr., Cordwainer, he post a marriage bond with Peter Bogardus, skipper of Dutchess Co., on 19 Jun 1769 to marry Rachel Losee. [NYMB 17] Rachel was probably born ca. 1747, the dau of Lawrence and Rachel (Delong) Losee of the Sylvan Lake/Clapp Hill area, the same area where Moses Barber, Sr was noted in 1751.
Moses Barber served in the Revolution from Rombout in the 2nd Regiment of the DC Militia.[NYR 135]
Barber was paid 3 pounds/12 for his service. He was on a pay roll of Capt. Abraham Brinkerhoff's company for service in 1779 and 1780. The receipt for his pay was dated 1 sep 1786 and he received 5 pounds/1/2for his service.
The Barber Genealogy, p. 395 refers to this Moses Barber and claims that he probably descends from Thomas Barber of Windsor CT. We believe him to be from Rhode Island as noted above. The Barber Genealogy say that Moses died in Jonesville, NY and that he had to daughters who married Wrights.

The Barber family came to Beekman by 1748 and remained through about 1765. MOSES, STEPHEN, and SIMEON BARBER, were most likely brothers and came to Beekman about the same time. Henry Hunting Swan, b. 1 Apr 1851; md. abt 1873 to Elizabeth Caroline JACKSON, Henry was a telegraph operator for the railroad for many years. He invented the loop devise for the trainmen to catch messages from the local stations. Children are:

Elizabeth Caroline JACKSON, b. 1856, md. abt 1873 to Henry Hunting SWAN There is some confusion about whether her name is Elizabeth Caroline or Caroline Elizabeth.
She died as a result of blow flies getting into her nose and laying eggs as she slept. The larvae ate into her brain. (Must have been a very slow and painful death.)

Albert Jackson SWAN, b. 7 Jan 1877, md. 7 Oct 1913 (div) to Olive Elizabeth Moore. Albert was a rancher, bee keeper, cement finisher and plasterer.
Albert Jackson Swan took his own life by shot gun on the Swan Ranch near Bisbee, AZ, at the age of 71 years. He was ill and wanted out of his misery.
