    STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
          
    The Great Bend Public Library established under K.S.A. 12-1220 et. seq., is established for the purpose of providing library service to the community. It recognizes educational, informational and recreational needs of the community and has as its goal "to provide the people with what they want when they come to the library." It supports and encourages life-long learning with special emphasis on the needs of pre-school children and out-of-school adults. It supports cooperation among all types of libraries throughout Kansas.
    MISSION STATEMENT

    People get what they want when they come to the Great Bend Public Library.
    PEOPLE FOR WHOM MATERIALS ARE BEING PURCHASED

    The library services of Great Bend Public Library are for people of all age groups, education levels and abilities, and interests. Therefore, it is the policy of the Great Bend Public library to select materials for its collection for all types and levels of readers.
    OBJECTIVES

    1.The library will collect information and disseminate it in print and non-print formats on subjects of interest and concern to members of the community.

    2. The library recognizes as its primary clients, out of school adults, pre-school children, and those who are home-schooled, and will strive to meet their information and reading needs.

    3. The library will provide opportunities for life-long learning through materials and reference assistance.

    4. The library will seek to fulfill every request made by library patrons to the extent that it is possible, whether it be through its own collection, or through interlibrary loan secured from other libraries.

    5. The library will provide programming suited to the needs of pre-school children--especially story hour and summer reading program.

    6. The library will procure all available material of historical value on Great Bend and Barton County.
